Mousewear and Desktop

Have you ever seen your desktop worn away by a mouse? I thought that w/ an optical mouse I wouldn't need a mouse pad but then I started noticing that when I used the mouse it was getting jumpy. Then I looked closer and using the mouse had worn down my desk a little. Anyone else have that problem?

Here's an updated pic of my desktop. I'm using a neat program called Synergy to share my mouse and keyboard between the three computers running on the three screens. I also have wallpaper from Zelda Four Swords Adventures on the screens. I haven't played that one yet but I've been playing Zelda Windwaker a little.
